I can’t believe how far I’ve come! In the last six months since I made a blog post, I have built all different kinds of furniture. I designed them myself which is cool, albeit not that impressive because that’s what I do for a living. But it’s cool that I can be involved in the entire project, from start to finish.

I’ve started taking photos of the pieces that I’ve designed and built, and I’ve now started a business page showcasing all my work. I haven’t had a period of no work ever since I got my building/ architecture business started. Apparently, people really like that I can do all of it, rather than having to get external contractors in to do the job.

I’ve also well and truly befriended the people at the hardware store in Sandringham. Actually, scratch that. I haven’t just befriended the people at the Sandringham hardware store, I’ve actually befriended everyone at a hardware store within a 25-kilometre radius of my house. Everyone is really happy to see a woman become successful as a carpenter, which has made me feel really good about what I’m achieving.

I’ve decided that I want to start supporting young girls and women who are looking to do something a bit left of the field, like visiting the hardware store for plumbing supplies. In the Cheltenham area, there are plenty of opportunities for young women to express themselves and figure out who they are. I want to be one of those people that help support and let women thrive.

Six months ago I was sitting on the couch with my degree in architecture, wondering if it was ever going to take me anywhere. Now I can build the things I design, and I’ve never felt more ready to take on the world. Let this be a lesson to everyone – never give up on your dreams.
